The Benefits of the Asian Economic Community (AEC) For Cambodia’s Young Generation

The Asian integration plan is a big event for every country in Asia, especially for all the countries in Southeast Asia. These ten nations will be united and this will include Cambodia which is soon going to become a member the ASEAN Community. Cambodia will get many benefits from joining the Asian Economic Community (AEC) which will assist the next generation, but what exactly are these benefits? For my idea, there might be four main benefits as I will outline below.

Firstly, by having Asian integration, Cambodia’s young generation will benefit from an increase of economic development. When this community is integrated, we will profit from investment coming in from our neighboring countries, such as: Singapore, China, Thailand and Myanmar. In addition, we will not only share this common market, but our own market will become stronger and more competitive. For example, products made in Cambodia will become more standardized and we will be able to export to the other ASEAN countries.  

Secondly, Cambodia’s young generation will benefit from the increase in human resources within the AEC.  I also hope that when our relations with the ASEAN community is consolidated, our educational system will also benefit. Countries in the South East Asian region have a lot in common, so we can learn a lot from each other, including in the field of education. For example, in Cambodia many students enroll in information technology classes, but unfortunately they lack those skills which would enable them to participate in new creative innovations with regards computer programming. Countries like Singapore especially, could help us to upgrade our education system by introducing such soft skills as creativity. In addition, AEC will offer high quality and quantity human resources to help development in Cambodia. 

Lastly, Cambodia’s young generation will benefit from secure international boundaries. When the ten nations come together, we will not have to worry about unstable boundaries because the ASEAN community has created laws to prevent members attacking each other. Instead we will focus on solving problems between member countries through peaceful means. Moreover, Cambodians will be able to travel from our own country to other countries in the Asian community very easily without having to pay too much for passports and visas. In this way, Cambodians will be able to go to Singapore in order to study and learn from a more developed society and economy. 
 
To sum up, when Cambodia joins the ASEAN community, our country will become part of a much bigger society with increased resources. In this way, Cambodia’s next generation will get benefits in so many ways from the AEC. We will benefit from better economic development, an increase in human resources and more secure national boundaries. From my point of view, the Asian Economic Community will improve the standard of living in Cambodia and help to eliminate poverty.
